about

From about 2004 to 2006, I performed in a cello/piano duo with Caroline Rodriguez. We called ourselves the New Nice. This album is a document of the sort of "minimal chamber rock" sound we were going for. I've also thrown in a couple tracks from before and after this period -- "Elevenses" and "The Curtain" respectively, because they seemed to round out the listening experience.

released January 11, 2011

Caroline Rodriguez played the piano and had significant arrangement input, especially on "Once." Caroline Maugeri provides backing vocals, Olivia Geiger plays violin on "The Curtain" and Sara Stalnaker plays cello on "Elevenses." Matt sang and played cello, viola, violin, accordion, acoustic guitar, and box of broken glass. The album was engineered by Seth Manchester at Machines with Magnets in East Providence. Post-production mastery and sequencing by Joseph Auger.
